From Companion to Gaelic Scotland – “Born Tong, Lewis. Gaelic master at Nicolson Institute, Stornoway, then headmaster of Bayble School, Lewis, 1922–53. Gaelic prose writer and bard. First Crowned Bard of National Mod, 1923. Pioneered development of Gaelic teaching in secondary schools. Edited An Dìleab (Gaelic poems for schools); co-edited Eilean Fraoich, a collection of Lewis songs; contributed articles to An Rosarnach, Gairm, etc. Editor of An Gaidheal, 1958–62. His collected poems, many of them on philosophical and religious themes, are published in Fasgnadh (1953); three Gaelic hymns by him are to be found in R. Macleod (1938).”
