Informant and bro. illustrate how Irish surnames (as also Dunne, Farrell, Coady) are to be encountered among the last surviving Gaelic-speakers in Cape Breton. Many more have Irish family heritage on their mothers’ and grandmothers’ side. Their Irish forebears would often have come from Louisbourg or across from Newfoundland. |
